Now TV producers have a new tool to manage the carbon and financial budgets of the programmes they make. Albert is the quaintly named carbon calculator, developed by the BBC and launched in 2011 at the Albert gathers data to estimate the carbon output of 60 minutes of the programme so that production managers can identify where carbon is being generated and how it can be reduced.
Albert was developed by the BBC in consulation with BAFTA. The BBC’s sustainability manager Richard Smith hopes that the tool, can be used to build up a picture of the carbon impact of the tv industry.
